How To Repair Bowed Window Jambs

Have you run into the unfortunate circumstance where your window jambs that you purchased with the windows are bowed in? This customer of ours unfortunately had but his were so bad that even the window frame was bowed in!

No one is quite sure what occurred to cause this, however, the windows were installed, house was sided and interior was drywalled and ready to case the windows when it was finally discovered.

Because it was so long before it was noticed, it made the job much trickier to repair. These homeowners spent really good money to include these oversized jambs with the window purchase so weren't exactly thrilled at the idea of having to spend more money removing siding to replace the windows.

Luckily they were referred to us at Trim Rite Mfg. to at least inquire if this was something we could handle.

Coming up with a solution for straightening bowed window jambs was not something we had done before but if you have ever dealt with Ray, you know he is always up for a challenge.

It just so happened that earlier this summer while working with another customer, Ray had created a special kind of jamb for the scenario where your existing jambs are too short and you are needing just another couple of inches added to the current jamb. The customer we were working with wasn't thrilled at the idea of having a seam along the entirety of the jamb where the two pieces connected so Ray created a jamb that would overlap the existing jamb and extend out to the drywall. It resolved the issue of the seam showing as well as the need to extend the jamb.

Back to the bowed jambs, Ray realized he could use this same technology to fit new PVC Window Jamb Extensions over top of the existing bowed jambs. The new jambs would be straight and level and wouldn't even take up much more space on the window frame.

In order for this to work, Ray and Glenson got to work removing half of the depth of the existing jamb that the current jamb could butt up to and cover. This part was necessary as we needed that extra beef of having a full jamb at the drywall end of the window so that the homeowner wouldn't have to deal with issues arising from too thin of a window jamb.

As always, we took measurements of each window including the height, length and depth (at each corner) and manufactured the jambs in our shop.

Back on site, Ray prepped the windows for the new jambs and loaded them up with our specialty PVC window silicone that we use for W.J.E. installation. The manufactured jambs are then easily lifted into place and then lastly secured with our supplied window jamb clips.

24 Hours later after the silicone is good and set, the window clips can be removed and the window is now ready for trim.

It is as easy as that.

The homeowners now get to enjoy the benefits of PVC Window Jamb Extensions the way they should've been from the start but no one would ever guess they aren't the original ones with the window; casing will be straight and level and they can easily install recessed blinds now whereas before they were so bowed that any blinds installed would have gotten hung up on the bow.

So how does this help you if you are dealing with bowed window jambs?

Well, now there is an easy solution for you!

You simply send us measurements (height, length and depth at each corner) of your windows needing jambs letting us know which ones will need customization due to being bowed and we do the rest.

We will manufacture the jambs, disassemble them and package them securely to ship to you all across Canada.

PVC Window Jamb Extensions are durable, built to last, maintenance free and moisture resistant. If you are looking for "how to finish off my windows" or "how to finish off my window jambs" or even "how to repair bowed window jambs", then look no further than us at Trim Rite Mfg.
